The shield cell in Galactic Gladiators had a problem: it only absorbed one hit. In an asteroid field full of tempting salvage, that didn’t give you much reason to pick it up.

It now has four charges. The cargo display shows Your ship has one cargo slot. Fly into a fuel canister or engine module while carrying a shield, and the swap happens immediately. There’s no confirmation screen while asteroids are bearing down on you. Instead, a brief message tells you what you sacrificed: That’s the sort of decision I want more of in GG. You might need the fuel right now, or you might regret throwing away three safe hits ten seconds later.

I’ve also been working on a fuel docking stage after the asteroid field. The idea is to match a moving port and hold the ship steady long enough to refuel. Meanwhile, the boost now has a natural limit: one press gives you one burst, ending with the splutter at the end of its sound sample.

These changes are still being tested in the game. The goal is simple: make the things you collect, the fuel you spend, and the way you fly matter beyond the next few seconds.

The shield cell in Galactic Gladiators had a problem: it only absorbed one hit.
