Knowledge is power, nearly right…. let me explain
It was the English author, courtier, & philosopher Sir Francis Bacon that said “knowledge is power”, and I think he was right… to a point. But there’s an essential part of this process missing, as essential as the knowledge itself.
You see, the knowledge of something can seem be very useful. It’s obvious to most of us that there’s great value in learning how things work, what things are or what they do. Unfortunately, no one can be an absolute expert in any subject. We are all always learning, changing and evolving (hopefully).
That’s why a mentor is so valuable. When you’re learning something new, they can fast track you, get you there much quicker than you could get there on your own. But as my Internet Marketing Mentor Alex Jeffreys points out, it’s of no use just learning how something works, you have to use that knowledge you have learnt. Of course, sometimes it’s better to outsource a job to someone who is more knowledgable in a given subject than you. Your time can be better spent on other tasks that you are more suited to. Think smart, be resourceful and use your time wisely. IN SHORT GET RESULTS WITH THE MINIMUM OF FUSS
But on a task you choose to tackle yourself, knowledge is not all you need.
For example, as an investor it’s of no value just knowing that at the start of a recession that gold is an excellent commodity to invest in, since history has shown that during a recession gold prices always soar. To benefit from this knowledge you have to actually invest some money in gold at the start of the recession. You have to do something with that knowledge of gold prices in a recession, USE IT. TAKE ACTION based on the knowledge you have gained.
And so it with Internet Marketing. I have just bought an ebook explaining in great detail how to go about writing your own ebook, there no point in me just reading it, I have to actually apply the ideas inside for it to be of any value me buying it.
We are all guilty of buying products that never get read or put to any practical use. I’m as guilty of this as anyone, I’ve spent a small fortune in internet marketing products, self-help books, and psychology books. They all sit proudly on my bookshelf, and yes I’ve read most of them, but how many of their ideas, concepts and principles have I actually integrated into my own life, not as many as I’d like to think.
Knowledge is power isn’t quite, knowledge can be empowering is more like it.
I think what Francis meant to say was “The use of knowledge is power.” Now thats a quote I can go with 100%
I’m off now to do some more work on my new ebook “Blogging for Absolute Beginners”…..
