Australian Government Wants ISPs to Record Browsing History
‘The Attorney-General’s Department yesterday confirmed to ZDNet Australia that it had been in discussions with industry on implementing a data retention regime in Australia. Such a regime would require companies providing internet access to log and retain customer’s private web browsing history for a certain period of time for law enforcement to access when needed.
Currently, companies that provide customers with a connection to the internet don’t retain or log subscriber’s private web browsing history unless they are given an interception warrant by law enforcement, usually approved by a judge. It is only then that companies can legally begin tapping a customer’s internet connection.’

Hmmm,
I’m torn over this one. Whilst not on favor of “big brother” looking over our shoulder, the rise of internet rings of pedophiles is of concern. If the information gathered is for the protection of our children, then I’m all for it. On the flip side, the net is truly one of the last bastions of free speech. If we post something the government of the day finds objectionable, will there come a time when we are punished for non-conformist views. I regret that I think that time may be closer than I’d like…Government censorship is already alive and well in China, where the truth is whatever the government says it is. By being “politically correct” in the regular media, our governments already prevent the public having a true voice except on limited, late night talk back radio, and of course the internet. Am I sounding like a conspiracy theory nutter? Maybe so, but I have already seen too much come to pass that subtly is eroding our way of life, all in the name of “being good for us”. Love to hear your views
Hi Joanne
Thanks for your interesting comments, I don’t think you sound like a “conspiracy nutter”, the evidence is now more obvious than it has ever been. The mainstream media have an agenda, and are owned by the major corporations. You certainly can’t believe everything you read on the internet, but for me it is the best place to see an alternative view of what is really going on. Even the BBC is now partly funded by Europe making impartial news about world politics impossible for them. Obviously the BBC is in the main pro Europe, no surprises there, don’t bite the hand that feeds you! The powers that be love & hate the internet, they love it because everyone is busy giving up their privacy on Facebook Twitter etc (data harvesting), and they hate it because at the moment we have freedom of movement of information. If feel very soon the internet was we know it will be shut down, and replaced by a much more restricted version.
Where is the evidence of the rise of internet rings of phedophiles you mentioned? Not seen that at all to be honest, I’d love to know where the evidence comes from.
Some of the most powerful families don’t want us to have the internet, here’s a video of Jay Rockefeller saying the internet should have never been invented.
